How to Determine the Right Thumb Size and Get the Most Out of Your Attachment
There are a lot of thumbs out there. In fact, Ransome carries 10 hydraulic and mechanical models from Gentec and there are plenty of other options out there. So how do you pick the right sized thumb for your machine?
Knowing the weight of your machine is the best place to start. Also, zero in on the tip radius of your bucket to make sure you get the best fit. (Reminder: the tip radius is the distance from the stick pin to the bucket teeth). The tip radius corresponds to the proper length of the thumb. Remember that the length of the thumb does not have to match the tip radius exactly, but it does serve as a flexible guideline to make sure you’re buying the right sized thumb to get the most out of your attachment.
